Entry from: Selcuk, Turkey Entry Title: "On the road again" Entry: "With a large chunk of my itinerary and an even larger chunk of my budget having been swallowed up by the swirling metropolis that is Istanbul, it was not without some degree of relief that I bordered my overnight bus to Selcuk. Things had not been going well. It was my ninth day in Istanbul and I had finally decided to stop ignoring the fact that I had no money; probably precipitated by the fact that I had none. My replacement card had still not arrived. Friday - it's estimated day of arrival - had gone tumbling by in a haze of boredom, perforated in the evenings by Raki and outrageously lewd American girls. Saturday, Sunday and Monday likewise followed this predictably similar, yet still enjoyable, pattern. I was close to giving in. Previously, like any sane young male I had hastily ignored the proposition to share a bed with a 30 year old man (my allusion in the previous entry to having done anything else being nothing but arrogant posturing). Yet with just four lira in my pocket (just under 2 pounds) and no money on any of my other cards to speak of I had no choice but to send him a grovelling plea for help; prefaced by the firm yet implicit statement that: "I have a sleeping bag". Then, in a moment of inspired dramatic timing ...
